A Teesside festival celebrating sustainability and community spirit is set to return next month.

Festival of Thrift returns to Billingham on September 21 and 22, featuring a blend of outdoor arts performances, live music, talks, and playful installations.

Billingham town centre and John Whitehead Park will play host to the festival's signature integrative programme from 11am to 5pm, with the grounds filled with over 100 stalls offering goods from north east artisan businesses.

Festival of Thrift co-creative director, Tanya Steinhauser, said: "We are so delighted to be returning to Billingham, for the variety of space, people and history it offers.

The festival site will boast free workshops in The Imagined Meadow area, family-friendly activities in Camp Thrift, and fashion shows and stalls in Slow Fashion Alley.

There will also be performances at the Bandstand and the Festival of Thrift’s famous Fix-it Café in Billingham Library.

Festival of Thrift co-founder, designer Wayne Hemingway MBE will be speaking at the festival and present a series of Best In Show thrifted fashion awards.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: "We’re thrilled to be welcoming back Festival of Thrift to Billingham town centre and we are expecting thousands of visitors from the Borough and beyond when the festival arrives next month.

"With so many performances, talks and stalls, there’ll be fun for the whole family whilst also having the opportunity to learn more about the very important messages on sustainability.

"It’s going to be an amazing weekend, so make sure your diary is free on September 21 and 22!"

Beyond the free activities, the festival will be adorned with stalls selling ethically-produced goods, food and drink across the site.

The event, sponsored by Arts Council England, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Thirteen Housing, Evolve Estates and Education Training Collective, begins from 11am to 5pm and is free.
