A driver has admitted causing the death of a 'much-loved' motorcyclist on the A684 by careless and inconsiderate driving.
Cameron Ward, 30, was driving a Ford Fiesta on the A-road near Bedale on July 10, 2022, when it collided with a Harley Davidson, which was being ridden by Gregory Newcombe, 26.
Mr Newcombe, from Romanby, near Northallerton, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which happened at the junction with Sinks Lane, between Bedale and Crakehall.
Ward, of Oak Drive, Sowerby, Thirsk, appeared at York Crown Court on Tuesday (August 27), where he admitted one charge of causing death by careless driving, one of causing death while driving a vehicle while unlicensed or insured, and a further one of perverting the course of justice.
The perverting the course of justice charge related to Ward trying to take out an insurance policy for his car after the fatal crash, giving the impression that he had insurance at the time of the collision.
Ward will be sentenced on October 11 this year. He was granted bail until the sentencing at York Crown Court.
Following the collision in July 2022, the family of Gregory Newcombe paid tribute to him at the time - describing him as a "much-loved son, brother and great friend to many".
