Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen has announced an additional £40,000 has been secured to help young survivors of sexual abuse.
The funding was attained through NHS England and will extend the work of the Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (RSACC).
The RSACC provides specialist support across County Durham for adult sexual violence victims and counselling for young victims of abuse.
Commissioner Allen said: "Supporting survivors of sexual violence and all victims of crime is a key priority.

"The trauma these young people have suffered will live with them their whole lives, negatively impacting their mental and physical health and often leaving them feeling ashamed, isolated and disconnected from their peers.
"This funding will enable RSACC to support 70 young people.
"It will offer young people a safe space to explore their trauma and empower them to take positive steps towards recovery to build the life they wish to lead."
In the 2023/24 period, the project took 30 counselling referrals for youngsters aged 17 and under, and 91 for individuals aged 25 and under.
Feedback forms filled out by those who completed counselling indicated the impact of the service - with everyone stating they received the help they needed and felt better prepared for the future.
Activities such as art, craft, music, writing and play will be used in counselling sessions to build confidence and self-esteem among survivors, helping them engage in their community, combat isolation, and develop positive coping strategies.
Trauma like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and anxiety can disrupt relationships with loved ones, impact school attendance and decrease educational attainment.
Ms Allen hopes the funding will enable RSACC to reduce their current waiting list and reach more children and young people.
