It is set to be a rainy day at first in County Durham and Darlington this bank holiday as the Met Office predicts sunny intervals with slight chances of rain.

Today (August 26) is the final bank holiday of the year - and the weather across the region is set to be a mixed bag.

Temperatures will reach a high of 18C as the county benefits from "sunny intervals" but not before a 50% chance of rain at midday.

Heading in to Tuesday, the forecaster has warned it will become “wet and windy” once again.

The forecaster predicts: “Outbreaks of rain at first, mainly in the west, slowly easing. Sunny spells developing, with any afternoon showers gradually dying out.

“Winds lighter and feeling warmer than Sunday. Maximum temperature 19 °C.”
