A person was taken to hospital after an air ambulance was called out to an incident in a County Durham this morning.

The Great North Air Ambulance was seen landing in Meadowfield, near Durham, shortly after 11am. 

Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service also attended and transported a patient to hospital. The nature of the incident is not known. 

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: "We were activated to an incident in Meadowfield, Durham at 11:15am and the team flew to the incident via helicopter, arriving on scene at 11:31am.

"They worked with the North East Ambulance Service to treat the patient before accompanying them to hospital by road."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at a private address in Meadowfield, Durham this morning (24 August) at 10:36am.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken to University Hospital of North Durham."
