Motorists filling up the tank for a Bank Holiday getaway this weekend will pay less on average than they did a year ago.
Prices of unleaded have come down by around 6p, Echo figures show, compared to this week in 2023.
The average cost of buying a litre of unleaded is currently 142.28p, according to the RAC, while the average price of a litre of diesel stands at 147.13p with the price of both expected to fall.
It comes as the motoring organisation says this August Bank Holiday will be the busiest on the roads in nine years with an estimated 19.2m journeys to be made.
RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson said: “With the end of the school holidays fast approaching it seems day trips will be the main cause of traffic this weekend, so for many drivers it could be a case of ‘day trip delays’.
“As our data shows, this weekend is likely to be the busiest August Bank Holiday on the roads for nine years, so it’s important everyone ensures their vehicle is in good condition to avoid facing an unwanted breakdown.”
