This is an moment a car was engulfed in flames following a crash on the A19 yesterday.
The drama was captured by Ant Steele as the car he was a passenger in drove past the scene of the collision of the crash near Houghton-le-Spring at about 4.50pm yesterday.
Police have since confirmed that no-one was believed to be injured in a collision involving three cars.
The crash closed the A19 southbound carriageway, causing significant traffic disruption, while emergency services dealt the the incident.
The major route was closed between the A690 (New (Herrington) and the A1018 (Seaham), with queues of traffic back up for several miles.
A spokesperson for the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision, where a car was on fire.
"We dispatched two appliances to the scene, where the fire was extinguished."
One lane was reopened after a number of hours, while all lanes were reopened by about 7pm.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday), we received a report of a three-vehicle collision on the A19 southbound in Sunderland, close to Hangmans Lane.

“Emergency services attended and no-one is believed to have been injured in the collision.
“A section of the road remained closed for a period of time to allow for recovery of the vehicles involved and re-opened a short time later.”
The North East Ambulance Service said it had not been called out to the incident.
