A Darlington sweet shop owner has been left "gutted" after his business suffered a break-in early this morning.

Andy’s Candy Bar, located on Duke Street in Darlington, has said it was the victim of theft after someone had stolen products from their premises at around 1:30am on Wednesday (August 21).

In a social media post the business said police had been “first class” in the way they have handled the incident.

He thanked everyone for their support, as well as the police, for lifting the spirits of everyone at the shop.

The business posted on its Facebook page: “Gutted to be posting this however we’ve had 2 incidents this week at Andy’s Candy Bar, the second resulting in someone raiding our premises around 1.30am on Tuesday August 21, parking outside our shop and clearing us out out of our till, drinks, sweets, gifts and damage to building.

“The police have been first class and confident the people involved will be caught however some of the products stolen aren’t your every day found on the supermarket shelf.

“If you hear of anyone handing out/selling sweets pouches, USA candies/drjnks, sugar free products, sweet pouches, traditional sweets then a heads up to speed the process would be appreciated.
