A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash involving an off-road motorcycle in Newcastle yesterday.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash at the junction of Philip Street and Stanton Street in the Fenham area, at about 7.25pm on Tuesday (August 20).

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "It was reported that an off-road motorcycle collided with a Skoda Superb car travelling eastbound.

"The motorcycle rider – a 38-year-old man – suffered serious injuries and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The driver of the car remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

"The road was closed for a number of hours following the collision but has since reopened.

"A full investigation has been launched by Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit and officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward."

Police are particularly keen to hear from motorists who were driving in the area at the time, and any witnesses who may have dashcam footage or CCTV which could assist their enquiries.
