A woman has been hospitalised following a crash on a rural County Durham Road earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to Elstob Lane, connected to Bishopton Lane near Newton Aycliffe, before 8am on Monday (August 19) following reports of a crash.

The incident involved one vehicle carrying a woman, who was subsequently taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision on Bishopton Lane near Great Stainton shortly before 8am this morning (Monday, August 19).

"One woman was taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries."

A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson added: "We were called to a road traffic collision this morning (19 August) on Elstob Lane in Newton Aycliffe at 7.40am.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew to the incident and one patient was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital."
