An investigation into a suspected arson attack is continuing after a car was left burnt out on a driveway in Darlington last week, police have confirmed. 

Emergency services were called to Haughton Road in the town just after midnight last Thursday (August 15) morning following reports of a car on fire. 

Crews from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire, while police officers were also at the scene. 

No one is believed to have been injured during the fire on Thursday.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) spokesperson added: “Shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 15 we were called to a car fire on Haughton Road in Darlington.

“Two fire engines from Darlington Fire Station were called to tackle the fire.

“Crews then left the scene at 1.08am.”

Following the incident, Durham Police launched an investigation and have suggested that the fire was arson-related. 

At the time, a spokesperson for Durham Police said: "Police were called shortly after midnight this morning (August 15) following reports that a car was on fire on the driveway of a property in Haughton Road.

"Officers are treating the incident as arson and an investigation is underway."

On Monday (August 19), the police force confirmed that the investigation into the fire continues and that no arrests have yet been made in connection with the incident.
