Police and council officials are trying to track a motorcyclist who gave them a 'friendly wave' while out riding in County Durham over the weekend.

The driver, who has had his image shared by Durham County Council's warden group, can be seen riding the motorcycle with one hand while sticking a middle finger up to wardens.

Following the incidents, the council's wardens group took to social media in an attempt to find the person who swore at the wardens.

The incident is believed to have happened in Annfield Plain while the wardens were out on patrol.

Wardens, who patrol County Durham for littering, dangerous driving, underage drinking, fly-tipping and other offences, work alongside the police to make the region a safer place.

Alongside sharing the image of the motorcyclist, the warden's group posted the caption: "Do you recognise this rider who gave us a lovely "friendly wave" whilst on patrol tonight?
