Delving 'under the radar' in County Durham, there's a network of delightful fish and chip shops to pick from.

While there's nothing like fish and chip shops at the seaside, there are plenty of town and village locations where fish and chips are delightfully done.

From perfectly cooked fish to crispy and fluffy chips, mushy peas, curry sauce, and the scraps - there's so much choice.

As part of going 'under the radar', we always seem to highlight the best of the best, but sometimes forget about the underrated ones that have hundreds, if not thousands, of great reviews from customers - but don't get the recognition.

The Northern Echo has pieced together seven places that are 'under the radar' and are worth a visit, according to Google and TripAdvisor reviews.

The 7 'under the radar' fish and chip shops in County Durham

  • Langley Park Fish Shop
  • South Moor Fish Shop
  • Golden Fish Inn
  • Bunty's Chip Stop
  • Stantons Fish & Chips
  • Newton Fish Bar
  • The Old Chippy

One great example is Langley Park Fish Shop - a takeaway-only spot with a great reputation and affordable pricing.

South Moor Fish Shop also comes highly recommended by locals, offering both delivery and takeaway, but no dine-in.

Golden Fish Inn and Bunty's Chip Stop (both Halal) follow in the same vein, offering takeaway (with delivery at Bunty's), but no dine-in.

Also worthy of note are Stantons Fish & Chips and Newton Fish Bar, both of which welcome takeouts and delivery orders.

The Old Chippy in Chester-le-Street meets the criteria as well.

These shops have survived and thrived, tucked just beneath the radar.
