Students across Darlington, County Durham and the rest of the North East and North Yorkshire have been celebrating today after getting their A-Level results.
Schools have spoken of their collective pride at their students' achievements, while individual stories of triumph against adversity and brilliant performances have been highlighted.
In 2023, the North East had the lowest proportion of entries awarded A or above, at 22 per cent, while the South East had the highest, at 30.3 per cent - a gap of 8.3 points.

But this year the gap between these two regions narrowed to 6.9 points (North East 23.9 per cent, South East 30.8 per cent).
Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College
Girls at a Durham independent school achieving outstanding A Level results today, with 25 per cent of grades awarded being an A*.
Students at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington are celebrating another year of excellent A Level results today with a pass rate of 99 per cent, 827 A*/A grades being awarded and 101 students achieving at least 3 A*/A grades.

Students at Teesdale Sixth Form
More than 48 per cent of students at Durham High School, based in Durham City, achieved As and A*s across the board, with more A* success in their Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs). Overall, 82.6 per cent of A Level grades awarded at the school were A*- B.
Sixth form pupils at Newcastle High School for Girls (NHSG) are celebrating another phenomenal year this A Level results day with around half of all grades being at A* to A and an impressive nine percentage point leap at A * - B grades compared to 2023 bucking national trends.S
Prior Purglove and Stockton Sixth Form
Students and staff at Bede Sixth Form College in Billingham were delighted at 99 per cent A-level pass rate.
The result comes in a year that saw the recently expanded college enter more students for A levels than ever before.
Peterlee Sixth Form college affected by RAAC is celebrating its students outstanding exam results, which are a testament to the students’ hard work, determination and resilience throughout a challenging academic year.
Grace Dye, Stockton Sixth Form
The proportion of A level students at St Bede’s Catholic School & Byron Sixth Form College, which is part of Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, who received A*-A was 27.9 per cent and 45.9 per cent received grades A*-B. This compares favourably with the national picture where 27.8 per cent of A level students in England received the top grades.
At Hermitage Sixth Form, in Chester-le-Street of all grades awarded, 40 per cent were A*-B and an average grade of Distinction was achieved by those studying applied subjects.
Stella Powell, Stockton Sixth Form
This marks another year of improved grades at the sixth form, reflecting the significantly improved Ofsted report received in March when the school was graded as 'Good' in all areas.
Teesdale Sixth Form students and staff celebrated a superb set of A level and Level 3 BTEC results.
More than 20 per cent of all grades were A and above, and over 50 per cent were grade B and above.

The average points score achieved by students increased from last year, with the average grade for all students being a B. All students who applied to university were successful in gaining a place.
