A businesswoman who hand makes pieces of jewellery, bags, bracelets and more opened her own stall in Darlington market last week. 

Ambica Amith, 40, built up a roaring trade in the two years she operated a stall on West Row, but as of August 8 operates her very own unit named Beaded Treasures inside Darlington Market.

Selling everything from handmade bags, earrings, bracelets as well as necklaces and even crystals, Ambica has hundreds of items to choose from to "cater to every customer".

Ambica told The Northern Echo: "I've always been into crafting, since I was young. I've always loved crocheting, embriodery and threadwork.

"That then grew to working with beads - that passion resulted in me setting up the business and I started at Christmas fayres and other events which I did for a year and a half.

"Then, I heard about the market here and was an outdoor trader here for two years but found it hard to manage with weather and other things.

"Of course, the market has been under renovation so I got in contact and liked the spot. After moving it all in, we opened last week."

Ambica then went on to give the Echo a short tour of the stall, explaining that anything that uses beads is lovingly handmade by herself and she can even make custom pieces upon request.

On display is everything from more colourful beaded pieces with flowers and insects like bumblebees to darker gothic pieces with spiders and blood red pendants. 

Also up for grabs are various types of crystals from rose quartz to amethysts complete with selenite charging mats for those in to the spiritual world.

So far, business has been good, but Ambica is hoping those who shopped with her as an outdoor trader will continue to support her and visit her new unit.

She said: "I do have a lot of customers who shopped with me when I was outside, so now the challenge is bringing them inside.

"I think it may take some time, but so far so good. I don't have any regrets!"

She added: "It's all really exciting, I'm really thrilled to be here."
