A Darlington road has been closed while work to create a safer walking route takes place.
Croft Road was closed on Monday (August 12) until August 30 as work begins on the route to Hurworth School.
The council have confirmed the road will be closed between the entrance to Rockcliffe Court and Elmfield Road, and they hope the road can be reopened on weekends.
The works are planned to see a 20mph zone introduced outside the school, no waiting and loading restrictions on Croft/Hurworth Road, three raised crossing facilities, and extra parking restrictions at the entrance to Rockliffe Court.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The road closure is necessary for safety reasons and to ensure the work can be completed before the end of the school holidays.
“Pedestrian access will be maintained and signed diversions will be in place for vehicles.

“The number 6 bus service cannot use its normal route through the village once the road closure is in place.
“Buses will be diverted along Roundhill Road and residents living at the western end of the village will need to make their way up to The Green to use the bus stops near the Spar shop.
“This will also be the case on weekends, even if the road is reopened.”
