A major redevelopment which will deliver circa. 3,500 new homes has obtained a resolution to grant planning permission, following support from international law firm Womble Bond Dickinson (WBD).

Lewisham Council has resolved to grant planning approval to a hybrid planning application for the redevelopment of land at Surrey Canal Road, Stockholm Road, Bolina Road, and Rollins Street, representing the largest provision of affordable housing in any single application submitted to the council in its history.

Alongside the delivery of new homes, which will achieve the government's affordable housing targets by providing 60 per cent social rent and 40 per cent intermediate affordable homes as part of the first phase of the development, public amenities and services are also planned for the development.

This includes a financial contribution for the proposed Surrey Canal Overground Station, new open green spaces including the improvement of the existing Bridgehouse Meadows, and the delivery of new sporting facilities, commercial spaces, and a local auditorium.

With unanimous support from the members of the Strategic Planning Committee, the scheme, estimated to total more than £1bn of investment into the area, members resolved to grant planning permission subject to completion of a Section 106 Agreement.

A WBD team led by partner Sarah White from the firm's planning team is advising the council on the application and the drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of the agreement for the redevelopment of the land.

Sarah said: "This planning application marks a milestone moment in this grand-scale development of the Surrey Canal strategic site, which will help revolutionise and revitalise the location within the wider Lewisham area, and we are thrilled to have played a significant role in the process.

With such a significant investment into the area and a requirement to deliver on positive housing targets which are of a key strategic value for the council and it has been a pleasure to work with Lewisham Council on this and support with our team's vast array of expertise."
