A North East beach where dolphins can sometimes be spotted has been crowned among the best for accessibility in the UK.

Beadnell Bay in Northumberland has also been praised for its “beautiful sunrises” and “shallow sheltered water”.

It was included in a guide to accessible beaches published by Country Living.

In total, 10 beaches were nominated by Access for All ambassadors.

The publisher commented on its best accessible beaches guide: “Carefree days by the coast can be a challenge for many disabled people.

“Here, supporters of our Access for All campaign share the seaside spots they've found the most welcoming and what they love the most about them."

What did the experts say about Beadnell Bay?

It was countryside access campaigner Debbie North who recommended Beadnell Bay.

Debbie explained: “I like to swim at Beadnell Bay because it's nicely sheltered.

“In the summer, there's plenty of wildlife, from a large colony of Arctic terns to dolphins. I've seen many beautiful sunrises here, as well as bright stars at night.”

For those wondering how easily accessible the beach is, the article also shares: “People using wheelchairs can get to the beach on a path from the village car park, where there are disabled bays and toilets.”

If you fancy a bite to eat after a day relaxing by the sea, The Ship Inn nearby serves locally caught fish.

On Tripadvisor, someone said Beadnell Bay “will always have a special place in my heart”.

Their review added: “It is so lovely to get a breath of fresh, salty air down here with lovely views and a sandy beach to play on and sea to splash in.

“We enjoyed playing some ball games, reading, having a picnic and people watching. It was busy yet didn't feel over crowded.
