Businesses across the North East have closed their shutters after violent disorder across the region over the last few days.

Police remain ready to tackle violence after a week of unrest, with forces across the nation monitor reports of at least 30 possible gatherings and threats against immigration law specialists, some of which had either closed or accepted offers of additional police protection.

Businesses, such as restaurants, bars, shops and beauty parlours have been advised to close early, or not open at all, if there is a risk of disturbances.

The Northern Echo has pulled together a list of businesses confirmed to be taking these precautions. This list will be updated with more information when we have it.

Durham

Shaheen's Indian Restaurant, Durham, has followed suit,  closing today after "far right flyers were given out in pubs."

They added: "We do hope our customers understand that our safety is of concern, these violent protests are targeting black and brown people."

Little Sicily in Durham closed ahead of "planned disorder" in the historic city last night, as they were concerned for "the safety of our staff and customers".

However, an update on their social media said the Italian restaurant would be open again today.

Shuck Salon, in Durham, has also said they will be closing early, at 3pm today.

They said: "Police have been into shops on North Road and advised we leave town early this afternoon.

"I hope all my lovely neighbour's shops stay safe tonight, hoverer I know all of us business owners and locals will come together as a community and help get things back to normal again.

"Durham City's community is strong and those coming into town to riot over these next two nights won't break our spirit!"

Durham Markets have also announced that they will be closing early on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, opening only until 4pm.

Bishop Auckland

The Hedgehog Bakery in Bishop Auckland has said they will be closing an hour early, at 3pm, but advised customers that may change if they have to make a "last minute decision" for "customer safety".

Wilson Veterinary Group also said that they would be "open for emergencies only" after 5.30pm today.

York House Nursery advised they will be closing by 3pm, saying: "For the safety of all of the children in our care and staff could you please pick your children up as soon as possible so that we can have the building clear.

"There is a police presence in the marketplace at the moment. If you have any questions please ring."

Middlesbrough

WANDER Media Production in Middlesbrough was also shuttered, and will be closed today.

CEO of WANDER Chloe Clover said: "It's the maddest feeling preparing for your windows to be put through and your street to be rampaged.

"We 100 percent stand with our friends on the street, in this community, and in this country who are targeted by this ignorance and violence."

Newton Aycliffe

Bishop's Barbers, in Newton Aycliffe, will be closed today, but is expecting to reopen tomorrow (Thursday, August 8).

They said: "We are doing this for the safety of our clients and staff. We hope you can all understand why we are doing this."

The Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre has initiated their "danger protocol", saying: "Your safety is at our utmost concern and we want you to know that should you wish to visit your group, you will be safe. Should you not wish to visit under your usual timings, then rest assured you will be looked after on an alternate date and you should contact your group lead for further information."

Elsewhere in the town, Mike's Fish Bar, and the Leisure Centre, have both said that there are currently no plans to close their buildings, but advised that this may change as the situation develops.

Sunderland

Citizens Advice in Sunderland, which was recently attacked and set alight during violent disorder, has also said that their drop-in session will not go ahead today.
