Plans to create four ponds in Stanley to help conserve the local Great Crested Newt population have been approved by Durham County Council.
The green light was given on Monday, for the project at Harperley Park Farm, located on Kyo Lane.
The plan, submitted by Colin Mcfadden, proposes to turn 600 square meters of grazing fields into a series of ponds.
The ponds will be created with the aid of Durham Wildlife Trust agent Mark Dinning.
The Council's approval is conditional, stating work must commence within the next three years and adhere to the planning documents.

Any damage to public footpaths during construction must be fixed.
No objections have been raised during the consultation stages from a diverse range of stakeholders, including the Coal Authority, Highways, Ecology teams, and local tree specialists.
This is because of the low risk involved, as the ponds' creation do not require substantial foundations.
Despite an open public consultation, no objections or support were submitted by local residents.
The approval document states the development is in alignment with all relevant planning policies in relation to sustainability, design and environmental conservation.
