A Darlington shop has moved out of its premises after saying that it has 'outgrown the building'.

House of Zana, which opened on Grange Road in the town in 2019, has revealed that it has vacated the shop - but has promised 'exciting announcements in the future'.

The independent shop, which was a fashion clothing name in Darlington, had built up a physical presence on Grange Road, as well as having a large online following.

The store hit headlines in 2022 after its owner, Amber Kottri was taken to court after big-name brand ZARA launched legal action.

The global brand, which has stores right across the UK, objected to Mrs Kotrri’s trademark application and the use of the name ‘House of Zana. It claimed it is “conceptually identical” to theirs and that the average customer will likely confuse the brand with that of ZARA.

The future of her independent boutique was on the line with the production of new clothing designs halted to preserve the company’s funds.

After a legal battle, Mrs Kottri and House of Zana won the trademark application and could continue with the name and brand.

She said: "We have loved our time in Darlington and we have seen so much growth in our business since we opened Grange Road in 2019, which has led to our really exciting new beginnings, unfortunately meaning we have outgrown our Grange Road store.

"There have been ups and downs as with all businesses, from opening two months before Covid hit, to fighting a legal battle with a fashion supergiant and winning, but we are excited for the future and have moved locations to concentrate on the growth of our online businesses and our in house manufacturing facility.

"Watch this space we have some exciting announcements coming soon and as always we want to thank our customers and the people of Darlington, none of this would be possible without their support over the years."
