Some bin collection schedules are set to change from next week - with residents urged to check new dates ahead of Tuesday (August 6).

From Tuesday, August 6, Middlesbrough residents with black refuse bins will have their waste collected fortnightly. For some, this means they will not have a collection next week.

For residents in parts of Beechwood and Longlands, Linthorpe, Coulby Newham, Ladgate and Marton East, collection days have changed.

Middlesbrough Council is continuing to deliver bigger and additional bins this week ahead of the changes, which will see many people with more infrequent bin collections.

Cllr Peter Gavigan, Executive member for Environment, thanked residents for their support and patience during a period of change.

He said: "We’ve delivered thousands of bigger and additional refuse bins over the past two months and are now ready to commence fortnightly collections.”

“For some people the change means they won’t have a collection during next week and around 1,000 houses will see their refuse and recycling collection day change. It’s really important that people check their collection calendars so they’re ready for the change.”

Residents with communal collections or who live in a high-rise property will still have weekly collections, but the day of collection may change.

Some residents in the Linthorpe area of TS5 with alleyways will still have weekly collections. Those affected will have received a letter.

The change to fortnightly collections will bring Middlesbrough into line with most other councils both locally and across the country.

Residents can check their collection dates online, using the Middlesbrough Borough Council website.
