A North East museum will be able to exhibit hundreds of unseen local objects after being granted £237,000 in funding.

Preston Park Museum in Stockton has secured funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund through its Dynamic Collections campaign.

The museum boasts 100,000 objects in its collection, though only 10 per cent of these are on display for the public.

The two-year project aims help improve the management of the museum’s collections.

It will be housed in a new interactive and visible collection store, which will be built in addition with the museum’s extension.

A Stockton Borough Council (SBC) spokesperson said: “The new building will incorporate a large flexible exhibition space and collections rooms.

“The new spaces will also make it possible to bring nationally significant touring exhibitions and objects to the region for the first time.”

Councillor Steve Nelson said: “We are thrilled to have received this support and thanks to National Lottery players, members of the public will have the opportunity to get up close to hundreds of objects that have never been on display before.
