A taste of Mexico is coming to Darlington as an “authentic” new restaurant and bar prepares to open in the town centre.
Posh Street Food, located at the corner between Skinnergate and Duke Street, is currently being transformed into Casa del Alma, a rebrand from the same owners.
Signs have already gone up outside the venue - which is expected to open at some point next month - with bosses promising an “amazing” cocktail and food menu and a “party vibe”.
From cocktails and pints to tacos and burritos, Casa del Alma, which translates to House of Soul, is set to feature traditional Mexican soul food, salsa music, and, of course, plenty of tequila.
This experience forms part of a new concept from Chef Matei Baran, a previous MasterChef quarter-finalist, with the restaurant boasting a different style and menu every four months.
Posh Street Food, which first launched in 2020, was a popular spot on Skinnergate, with reviewers praising the “unreal” food and “lovely and friendly” staff.
The restaurant served everything from high-quality pizzas and parmos to wings, flatbreads and Sunday roasts.
But now he’ll be swapping posh burgers for birria (an authentic Mexican stew) as he prepares to open Casa del Alma.
First announced in early July, an opening date was initially set for July 29 - although this was later pushed back until August 9.
A post on Facebook states: “We are rebranding to bring the joy and vibe of a Mexican experience to Darlington.
“We will be back open on [former opening date] with an exciting & vibrant Mexican menu, new decor, Tequila and of course cocktails.
