A Darlington Subway is set to reopen under new management.

New signs have been placed on the windows of the sandwich store at the DL1 complex confirming it will be reopening to customers “soon”.

The fast food venue - located underneath the Vue cinema and beside The Woollen Mill pub - has been closed for several months for unknown reasons.

Several vacancies are up for grabs according to posters on the store windows, including one store manager and two customer assistants.

Subway - which has several stores in the town including on Prebend Row and at North Road Retail Park - has not provided any information on why the DL1 unit closed.

Passersby reported last month that the venue had suffered an “electrical fault” after spotting signs in the windows - although this has not been confirmed.

It is not currently known when the Subway will reopen to customers.

The news of Subway reopening comes just weeks after Tomahawk Steakhouse announced it would be closing its doors for good at the development.

Speaking to The Northern Echo this week, owner Howard Eggleston said the chain decided to pull out due to issues with “zero footfall” and a lack of support from owners.

DL1 continues to be a popular spot for leisure and dining in Darlington, housing the likes of Estabulo, a Premier Inn hotel and a Vue cinema.
