An award winning County Durham business has been put on the market as its owner embarks on a new "adventure".

Wing and a Prayer, situated on the High Street in Coxhoe has been operating for nearly six years and has won Small Business Winner 2020, and was a finalist for Small Entrepreneur of the Year in 2022 and Retail Entrepreneur of the Year 2024.

Owner Lisa McDonnell announced the news on Facebook.

She said "Wing and a Prayer has come to mean the world to me.

"The decision to establish it on the High Street in Coxhoe proved to be a pivotal event for me personally.

"The success of Wing and a Prayer has given me the confidence to consider the next ‘adventure’.

"I remain committed to the ongoing success of Wing and a Prayer and what it offers to local traders and artisans and am looking for someone who can not only keep it going but bring their own new ideas or innovations."

The business, which will remain open despite being on the the market, boasts a large, loyal customer base according to Ms McDonnell and has garnered a reputation for supporting local traders and artisans by giving them a high street presence.

Ms McDonnell hopes to find a new owner who can not only maintain the business but bring their own innovative ideas.

She said: "Adapting to the limitations imposed by Covid allowed the shop to not only survive and prosper but continue to grow and expand.

"It has achieved far more than I could have originally hoped for".
