Dogs Trust in Darlington are gearing up to celebrate their 30th birthday later this month.

Staff at the centre in Sadberge will host a “fun-filled family day out” for dog lovers and their pets on August 17.

The event is free and the Trust have encouraged those looking to come along to enjoy the day.

It will feature a dog show, dog school classes, interactive activities such as the ‘Wheel of Pawtune,’ face painting, and an agility course for your canine companion.

A raffle will also be held with a chance to win a two-night stay, for four people and two dogs, at a holiday cottage in Corbridge.

There will be 30 stalls at the event boasting local vendors such as Created by the Ridleys, The Pooch Traveller, Yarm Distillery, Sugar Noms, and Jasper’s Tasty Treats.

Additionally, ‘Sparkle and Magic’ will cater the event, offering vegetarian pizzas, burgers, and koftes – as well as treats for dogs as well.

Alex Hennessey, Manager at Dogs Trust Darlington said: “It’s amazing to work for a charity that has improved the lives of so many dogs and local dog owners through our work in Darlington.

"The doors of our Rehoming Centre first opened in May 1994 and since then we have rehomed nearly 20,000 dogs.

"Thirty years later we continue to support four-legged friends in the local community and beyond via our Rehoming Centre, national Behaviour Support Line and Dog School classes.

"It was important to us to invite locals to be part of our celebrations as they are such a big part of everything we do.”

"We are looking forward to previously adopted dogs and their forever families being part of our special day as well as meeting potential adopters who haven’t visited our centre before.
