An investigation into the incident took place, with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service now believing that initial suggestions are that the fire was started deliberately.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A crew from Northallerton responded to reports of fire approximately measuring 10 by 10 metres in a wooded area. This was believed to have been caused deliberately.

"Crews walked from the appliance wearing wildfire knapsacks full of water and extinguished the fire and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure all heat sources had been extinguished."
