Flames were spotted roaring from a car after the vehicle was "petrol bombed" in Norton.
Emergency services were called to Greta Road on Thursday at about 10.15pm after reports that a black Vauxhall Astra had been deliberately set alight.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a group on motorcycles come over to the car before the incident took place, although this has not been confirmed by police.
One video circulating on social media shows large flames pouring from the vehicle, which was parked on the street, while another shows the blue flashing lights of a fire engine in the distance.
Cleveland Police has confirmed enquiries are now ongoing, and has asked anyone with information or footage to get in touch.
