A drug dealer who tried to make off on a motorbike had to be tackled to the floor by police.

Video shows the moment officers managed to pull Michael Hill off the off-road bike in Middlesbrough.

Hill, of Raby Court in Middlesbrough, appeared before Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday (July 24) after being charged with multiple offences including possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of criminal property, dangerous driving and other driving offences.

Police said they received reports from concerned locals about drugs and spotted Hill near Angle Street and Newstead Road on May 1.

As officers moved in to arrest him Hill, 22, tried to make off.

A plain-clothed officer managed to apprehend him and he was arrested.

When he was searched he was found to be in possession of 23 deals of cocaine, a quantity of cannabis and a police-style baton.

A judge sentenced him to a two-year intensive supervision order.

Middlesbrough Proactive Team Sergeant John Sproson said: “I am satisfied with the sentence handed to Michael Hill.

“Officers are committed to listening to communities’ concerns and tackling the illegal use of off-road bikes, and anyone who uses them in criminality and antisocial behaviour.

“Please continue to report any drug dealing and criminality to police, we are working hard to tackle these issues and put those responsible before the courts.”
