It's set to be a reasonably warm day across the North East with some sunny spells in Darlington. 

The Met Office has predicted that it will be largely cloudy for the most part of Thursday but will brighten up in the morning, with temperatures expected to peak at 21°C later in the day.

There is a small possibility of showers, however, with a 50% chance of rain in Darlington at 1pm, alongside 26mph wind gusts. 

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Largely cloudy for much of Thursday, but brightening up through the morning. A few showers are expected mostly in the afternoon, perhaps continuing into the evening. Maximum temperature 21°C.

"Chance of some late evening sunny spells. Lengthening clear spells developing towards midnight with any showers slowly easing. Plenty of sunshine to start on Friday morning. Minimum temperature 9 °C."
