Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an alleged attack on a Middlesbrough estate. 

Police and paramedics were called to Kentmere Road, in Berwick Hills, on Tuesday evening after reports of an assault involving a weapon. 

The incident left a 16-year-old boy with injuries to his chest and neck, and he was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, by land ambulance. 

He remains in a stable condition. 

Images circulating online show how an air ambulance landed on a nearby field following the incident, which took place at about 6pm. 

Cleveland Police has confirmed that two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A full statement from the force said: "At 6pm on Tuesday, July 23, police were called to reports of an assault involving a weapon on Kentmere Road in Berwick Hills, Middlesbrough.

"A 16-year-old boy had sustained injuries to his chest and neck.

"He was taken to James Cook University Hospital by land ambulance where he is currently in a stable condition.

"A 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and are currently in police custody.

"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference number 139611.

"Information can also be provided by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

A North East Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on Kentmere Road, Berwick Hills, Middlesbrough shortly before 6pm on Tuesday, July 23.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, a clinical team leader, and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to hospital by road"
