The funeral for a 13-year-old Newton Aycliffe schoolboy who was tragically killed alongside an 18-year-old in a motorcycle crash earlier this month will take place today.
The life of Bobby Grimes, 13, is set to be celebrated today at St Clare's Church in Newton Aycliffe weeks after he was killed in a crash on Middridge Road, Rushyford, shortly after noon on Friday, July 5.
Schoolboy Bobby was sadly killed alongside Wayne Hodgson, 18 when the duo were riding on the same motorbike.
The family of Bobby Grimes paid tribute to their “greatly loved” son following the crash.
They said: “Bobby was a greatly-loved son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson.
“He was a cheeky boy who loved to say ‘wise man’. He will never be forgotten and missed forever.”
His family also thanked the member of the public who gave Bobby first aid at the scene, they said: “he is a hero in our eyes”.
Police have now warned residents that they are expecting a large turnout for his funeral.
They said: "We are expecting a large turnout for a funeral in Newton Aycliffe tomorrow (Wednesday, July 24).
"Officers have been working closely with the family who have expressed a desire for a respectful and dignified day and request that those involved in the funeral procession and wake use the roads safely.

"Central Avenue remains closed due to roadworks and high volumes of traffic are likely around the St Cuthbert’s Way area.
"Thank you all for your cooperation."
