A coastal chippy is offering free fish and chips for children this summer holidays.

Oswins, which opened last November at the Tynemouth Castle Inn hotel after a multi-million pound revamp, is offering a free meal with any adult portion.

Available alongside a regular cod, haddock or scampi with chips, kids can tuck into cod bites, sausage, scampi, halloumi fries and chicken nuggets, all with chips, Monday to Friday.

For traditional chippy lovers the fish is fried in beef dripping, with a separate frier of sunflower oil for any dietary requirements.

Jen Malkin from Oswins said: “We think we are serving some of the best fish and chips in the area at our fish & chip shop and with so many families set to head to the seaside during the summer holidays, we’re inviting them to find out for themselves!

“With the cost of feeding the family on a trip to the coast something that people are very much aware of, we’ve decided to make the main dishes on our children’s menu free with the purchase of an adult’s portion during the holidays.

“There’s plenty of choice and with the wheat-free alternative batter and our frying options of beef dripping or sunflower oil, so hope to see people making us part of their well-deserved family time this summer.”

The chippy has received rage reviews since its opening with the fish even being compared to the ever-popular fish and chip shop at Beamish.

Facebook reviewer Claire said: “Normally we go to a local fish and chip shop, but we decided to try Oswins - wow it was gorgeous. The batter is so tasty! Portions were good in size and reminded us of eMamish fish and chips. Ee will be back, and it gets five stars from us.”
