A motorcyclist has been left in a critical condition after a crash in Newcastle. 

Emergency services were called to Binswood Avenue, close to the junction with Sunnyway, in Blakelaw on Sunday after a crash involving an off-road motorbike and a black MG6 car. 

The rider of the motorbike, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. Northumbria Police has confirmed he remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The driver of the car was uninjured and remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

The force has since launched an investigation and is appealing for witnesses to get in touch. 

A full police statement said: "At 9.40am yesterday, we received a report of a collision between a orange and black off-road motorbike and a black MG6 car on Binswood Avenue, close to the junction with Sunnyway, in Blakelaw.

"The rider of the motorbike, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital having sustained serious head injuries. He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

"The driver of the car was uninjured and remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

"We are investigating the incident and are appealing for witnesses to get in touch, particularly those who may have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision."
