Durham University students are "very satisfied" with their university experience, according to the National Student Survey 2024.

The National Student Survey (NSS) is an independent annual survey that evaluates how satisfied students are with the quality of their experience at university across seven areas. These are: teaching on their course; learning opportunities; assessment and feedback; academic support; organisation and management; learning resources; and student voice.

Durham students’ satisfaction increased in all seven areas from 2023, and Durham ranked in the top 20 non-specialist universities in the UK for teaching and academic support.

Some 92 per cent of Durham students said they found their course intellectually stimulating, and 93.4 per cent said staff explained things well. Nearly 90 per cent of Durham students said they were satisfied with academic support, and 89.5 per cent said they were satisfied with learning resources.

Student satisfaction with mental wellbeing support communications rose by 5.9 per cent from 2023, and satisfaction with IT resources increased by 5.5 per cent.

The departments of Biosciences, Anthropology, Theology and Religion, Earth Sciences, and Geography were rated particularly highly by students, specifically when asked about teaching o their course.
