A stash of illegal cigarettes were found in a Darlington home's shoe cupboard after police spotted a suspicious-looking man in the street.
The discovery was made after PCs Anwar and White and PCSOs Flinn and Brown bumped into the man on Gladstone Street, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
After some probing questions and investigative work, they found he had counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco stored in his cupboard.
The items were seized and an investigation will now be carried out, alongside Darlington Council’s trading standards team.
