A JUNIOR North East football team has scored an “unforgettable triumph” in a prestigious international tournament to promote town twinning.

While the England national team may have missed out on Euros glory in Germany, Darlington RA Under-15 boys team returned home from their German twin town of Mulheim with well-deserved silverware.

The Town Twinning Tournament featured five teams – Mulheim, Finland, Ukraine, Germany and Darlington RA – and the outstanding English team won all six matches, scoring 20 goals and not conceding any.

Darlington RA beat Mulheim 1-0 in a tight semi-final, then celebrated a 5-0 victory over Finland in the final, with Rohan Elder scoring twice, and Jamie Burkin Watson, Reece Ebdon, and Will Barker also on the scoresheet.

The final was broadcast live to an impressive audience of more than 6,000 online viewers worldwide.

The boys, whose shirts were sponsored by Darlington Round Table, were accompanied on the trip by head coach Martin Williamson, and fellow coaches Mark Ebdon and Chris Barrett.
