One person is this evening in hospital after a crash at the Rushyford roundabout, just meters from where two teens were killed in a crash earlier this month.

Police and paramedics were called to Middridge Road off the smaller of the two roundabouts at Rushyford at about 1.10pm on Sunday (July 21).

One person was taken to hospital at James Cook in Middlesbrough.

His condition is not known. The Northern Echo has contacted Durham Police for more information.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision today (21 July) at Middridge Road in Rushyford, Durham at 13:12. We dispatched one ambulance crew and two HART resources (Hazardous Area Response Team) to the incident. Once patient was taken to James Cook University Hospital."

The incident happened just meters away from the scene of a devastating crash earlier this month which claimed the lives of two teenagers on a motorcycle.

Photos show police and medics working right next to floral tributes left for the pair.

Wayne Hodgson, 18, was driving the motorbike with 13-year-old Bobby Grimes riding pillion when they collided with a car shortly after noon on Friday (July 5). Both of them tragically died.
