Armed police were seen at a Newton Aycliffe housing estate this morning as a resident claims a man was arrested - here's everything we know so far.

Multiple police vehicles as well as the fire service were in attendance on Ashfield in Newton Aycliffe this morning after 10am following reports of an incident.

Pictures of the scene showed police cars and a fire engine parked outside of a property - but the circumstances of the incident are currently unknown.

One resident told The Northern Echo that one person was arrested - and emergency services were there "for ages".

The ambulance service have confirmed they were in attendance but were stood down by police.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at a private address in Newton Aycliffe this morning (21 July) shortly before 10:30am.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and one clinical team leader but were later stood down by police."

Durham Constabulary have been contacted for more information.
