A person has been taken to hospital following a crash in Bishop Auckland last night.

Emergency services were called to Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland just after 6:30pm last night (July 20) following reports of a crash.

Bus services were unable to use the road for some time immediately afterwards, stating on Facebook the route was inaccessible due to an "incident".

The ambulance service has since confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic collision today (20 July) on Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland shortly after 6:30pm.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, one clinical team leader and were supported by our colleagues at Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient was taken to James Cook University Hospital."

The Great North Air Ambulance and Durham Constabulary have been contacted for more information.
