Plans have recently been submitted to the council to convert a Darlington terraced property into a six-bedroom HMO (house of multiple occupation).

114 Neasham Road could be turned into an HMO in the near future should proposals get the green light from Darlington Borough Council.

Plans were submitted for consideration on July 10, which detail the conversion of each of the six rooms - which are understood to occupy a maximum of seven people.

A design and access statement with the application reads: "The proposal seeks to convert this single-family dwelling, into a 6-bed, 7 occupants house of multiple occupation.

"There are no external changes proposed as part of this application, resulting in no alteration to the character of the area.

"The building will retain its front and rear access, with one door at each side of the building. The rear yard has a separate door that exits onto the cobbled street.

"The proposal has been designed with high regard for building regulations, specifically Part B (fire regulations).

"To achieve this, the staircase will be fire-protected and no bedroom will be directly accessible from this.

"Instead, all bedroom entrance will be lobbied, where necessary, to ensure the building is safe and compliant."

Drawings on the planning portal show intentions to convert the existing living room into two bedrooms, each with an ensuite.

The shared kitchen at the rear of the home is not set to change.

On the first floor, three bedrooms are similarly converted into en suite rooms, each with "a slight reconfiguration" to accommodate the bathrooms.

Lastly, a bedroom on the second floor will be designed to accommodate two people.
