A man is said to have made a hole in the roof of a house before climbing outside in a five-hour stand-off with police.

The man is understood to have been on the roof from 11pm on Friday (July 19) night until 4am on Saturday (July 20) morning.

Pictures show officers gathered around a property on Knitsley Walk in Harwick, Stockton alongside firefighters and paramedics.

One image shows a hole in the roof of a house, which the man is believed to have climbed through.

After several hours the man came down from the property.

The Northern Echo has contacted Cleveland Police for comment.

Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed they attended to assist police, meanwhile a North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident at a private address in Hardwick, Stockton this morning (20 July) shortly after midnight.

“We dispatched one duty officer and three HART crews (Hazardous Area Response Team) but were later stood down by police.”
