A North East school has been rated 'Good' by Ofsted in a recent inspection, winning praise for its wide range of opportunities, SEND provisions and nurturing atmosphere.
St. Francis C of E Junior School, in Newton Aycliffe, has maintained its Ofsted rating after a visit by the Ombudsman earlier this year.
The report praised the school for being “ambitious for all pupils,” and a “nurturing and aspirational school.”
Inspectors described the “high expectations of pupils’ behaviour,” and the “positive learning atmosphere,” where pupils are “safe and happy.”
Ofsted's lead inspector also noted the “ambitious” curriculum, where "high expectations" help students adapt the curriculum to help pupils fill gaps in understanding.
St Francis CE (Aided) Junior School Headteacher, Lisa Lakey said: “We are delighted with our recently published report. It reflects the love and care that the school ethos brings, the hard work and dedication of children, staff and the wider community.
"They all work hard to ensure all children can believe in and work towards the many opportunities open to them in the future.”
"The report highlighted the curriculum and its ambition for all pupils.
"The school motto, ‘Let your light shine bright’, is lived out by all pupils and staff. The newly introduced curriculum helps pupils, including those who are disadvantaged or those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), to achieve well.”
A spokesperson for the school said: "Recently, Ofsted visited St. Francis’ Junior School in Newton Aycliffe. We are delighted to announce that we have maintained our status as a good school!
"We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our entire school community—students, parents, staff, and governors—for their continued support and contribution to our success.

"Each member plays a crucial role in making St. Francis’ Junior School a place where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally."
Chair of Governors, Mr Bowes said: “The inspection confirmed what the school and all governors and staff have been working for over the past few years.
"It is our aim to continue to ensure that all children become part of our St Francis’ family and flourish during their time with us.”
