A visit to McDonalds proved to be a costly trip for one motorist when he was caught drink driving in the takeaway restaurant's car park.

Kevin Burdon was found to be almost twice the limit when he was breathalysed at the McDonald's in the retail park in Murton, County Durham, on May 27 this year.

The 42-year-old had 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court heard.

Burdon, of Third Street, Blackhall Colliery, County Durham, pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and failing to surrender to custody.

He was banned from driving for three years and fined a total of £200.
