A County Durham man who was holding a 'knife' has been arrested after a huge armed response flocked to a residential housing estate last night.

Multiple police vehicles were seen on Hylton Road and Raby Road in Ferryhill last night (July 17) just before 4:30pm.

Officers were called regarding the welfare of a man and were pictured outside a property as neighbours looked out of their homes.

Police have now confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of a 'bladed article'.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called shortly before 4.30pm yesterday (July 17) to Raby Road, Ferryhill following concerns for the welfare of a man.

"Officers attended and arrested the 34-year-old on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of a bladed article, he remains in custody.

"Thankfully, nobody was injured in the incident."
