Hurworth House School is a three-storey grade II listed building.
The purpose of the application is to provide new structural support to replace an existing failing timber beam within an existing space.
A structural assessment of the building found the current timber beam is under risk of failure which will put the use and retention of the building at risk.
Typically the replacement would see the full removal of the beam using acro props and stripping back of plaster. A new beam would then either be supported on a new blockwork set of piers or sat on padstones supported on the load-bearing walls.
