Tomahawk Steakhouse has announced the sudden closure of its Darlington restaurant.

The chain - which has been operating from the town's DL1 leisure complex for several years - made the shock announcement online, "apologising for any inconvenience".

Bosses have not yet given a reason behind the restaurant shutting the doors, which was confirmed via a closure notice on the venue's website.

The notice instead pointed customers to other nearby Tomahawk venues such as Yarm, Potto, and Acklam.

First announced in September 2019, the Darlington restaurant proved very popular with diners, serving up a range of fillet, rump, and sirloin steaks as well as burgers and fish dishes.

DL1 - which was formerly known as Feethams leisure complex - is currently home to a Nandos, VUE Cinema, Subway, Hungry Horse pub The Woollen Mill, and more.

The exact date Tomahawk Darlington closed its doors is unknown.

The closure will remain a shock to many fans of the restaurant, which boasts a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor and has garnered praise for its "amazing food and brilliant cocktails."

One person said: "Lovely service, friendly staff, great food, and aesthetic interior. Great place for any occasion, I recommend highly."

Despite the closure, Tomahawk continues to grow across the country, with restaurants in Harrogate and Sunderland set to open their doors soon.
