Temperatures are set to soar across County Durham and Darlington today as forecasters predict a dry day with highs of 24C.

Summer appears to have finally landed in the North East today (July 18) better late than never with temperatures expected to reach the mid 20s.

Less than a 5 per cent chance of rain is forecast for the day meaning today may be the warmest yet following a week of torrential rain. 

Light wind is also forecast throughout the day but will only reach a high of 10mph, with the sun due to set at 9:28pm.

The forecaster predicts: “A largely cloudy day with some patchy rain on western hills possible at first, sunny spells developing in the afternoon. 

“Perhaps the odd shower by the evening in the west. Maximum temperature 24 °C.”
