Pictures have emerged of a devastating blaze that ripped through a North East industrial estate in the early hours of Monday morning.

54 firefighters and ten engines were battling flames at the Addison Industrial Estate in Ryton, Gateshead which first broke out before midnight on Sunday (July 14).

Residents were urged to keep their doors and windows closed as dawn broke and firefighters continued to battle the flames.

Pictures have now been released of the devastating blaze and smouldering rubble - which was finally extinguished before they left the scene at 6pm on Monday (July 15).

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We can confirm that all crews have now left the site in Gateshead, which saw a serious fire take hold late on Sunday evening (14th July).  The last remaining firefighters left the industrial estate location in Ryton yesterday tea-time at approximately 6pm.
